So, in preparation for one of his homework assignments, my husband asked, "Who do you think is a role model for all women?" Good question, right? It made me think about who I want to be. What does womanhood mean to me? Maybe it's old-fashioned nowadays... But I think a woman to be admired is one who follows her God-given yearning for motherhood. She is classy. And by classy, I mean that she is tempered and patient and over-all, thinks of others first. She keeps her body clean because she knows who she is and wants more than anything to use her body for good. She wants to serve and to never stop learning. She is not ashamed of her sensitivity and uses it to love others more perfectly. She is happy.
That's the kinda gal I hope to be. I am so blessed to be able to run out of fingers and toes counting the women in my life that epitomize being a lady.
"I don't want to drive up to the pearly gates in a shiny sports car, wearing beautifully, tailored clothes, my hair expertly coiffed, and with long, perfectly manicured fingernails.
I want to drive up in a station wagon that has mud on the wheels from taking kids to scout camp.
I want to be there with a smudge of peanut butter on my shirt from making sandwiches for a sick neighbors children.
I want to be there with a little dirt under my fingernails from helping to weed someone's garden.
I want to be there with children's sticky kisses on my cheeks and the tears of a friend on my shoulder.
I want the Lord to know I was really here and that I really lived."
— Marjorie Pay Hinckley
I LOVE that quote by Sis. Hinckley. I have been thinking about her words every time my kids smear snots on my white shirt. Personally, I think she is perfect to be included in your post--I believe she's a wonderful role model to women! :)
ReplyDeleteThis was too precious. Thanks for reminding me who I want to be =)
